This workshop will get you started with the Making Version Controlled Reproducible Analyses case study, from the Open Case Studies Project. This case study uses maternal and infant gut microbiome data to explore version control for transparent, reproducible science, and using Git and GitHub for research collaboration. Rather than a step by step walkthrough, this workshop will orient you to the case study’s motivation, questions, core goals, and initial setup tasks. We hope this will leave you with the benefits of independent learning and problem solving, while keeping you from getting truly stuck!
This workshop is intended for biomedical researchers who wish to expand their data science skillset to Git and GitHub and plan to work through the Making Version Controlled Reproducible Analyses case study.
Please ensure you have done the following:
*Git may be used via command line if you are unable to install GitHub Desktop or would prefer to interact with GitHub through a command line interface.
Data wrangling, visualization, or pull request workflows. You’ll complete the majority of the content independently using the case study materials. This workshop deliberately focuses on orientation and setup and is not a full walkthrough. Don’t worry though! You’ll have access to office hours and the OCS community after the workshop.
